A star-studded evening for packaging technologists
Starpack, the UK packaging industry’s most prestigious awards, saw designers and technologists come together for the 2007 Starpack Awards Ceremony, held on 14 May at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.
Organised by IOP: The Packaging Society, the Awards comprise industry, schools and student competitions to recognise excellence in packaging, with consideration for sustainability. The Starpack Industry Awards saw 69 finalists chasing Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes in 15 categories. Awards were also made to individuals and businesses.

The Schools Starpack Awards was divided into three categories – Back to School Cartonboard Pack, Salad Growing Plastic Pack and Materials Research Brief. Enhancing the national curriculum, this competition raises awareness of careers in packaging and design. The winning schools were presented with their awards during Total Processing & Packaging at the Birmingham NEC, on 15 May.

The student competition was held alongside the schools Starpack. There were 11 briefs to select from, each chosen to reflect real life industry constraints. The 2007 categories varied from designing an innovative can for lager, to creating a corrugated confectionery pack.
