Formal launch on 10 July

The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining was formally launched on 10 July 2002 with a seminar entitled 'Coping with change in the materials cycle', held at the Institute headquarters in London. The seminar consisted of a series of presentations by key figures from the materials, minerals and mining communities giving state-of-the-art reviews, as well as looking to the future challenges of each of these sectors. The event was followed by a formal dinner for past members of both previous Institutes’ councils.

The formal launch is just one in a series of events over the coming months to mark the formation of the new Institute and to promote its activities to the materials, minerals and mining sectors and beyond. Local, regional, national and international events will enhance the visibility of the new organisation, with one of the major UK showcases for the Institute this year being at the Interplas exhibition in Birmingham at the end of September.
