Bessemer’s Legacy to Today’s Steel Industry

The first Sir Henry Bessemer Lecture, entitled “The relevance of Bessemer’s legacy to the steel industry of the 21st century” is being presented by Mr Jean-Pierre Birat, Scientific and Technical Director of IRSID, on Tuesday 30th September in London.

Mr Birat is the recipient of the Institute’s Bessemer Gold Medal for 2003, and his lecture will feature a technological forecasting exercise, looking at potentially promising future technologies for the steel industry, based on the work of Sir Henry Bessemer. Attendance at the lecture, which will take place at 6pm at No 2 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1, is free of charge, but by ticket only.

The lecture will be followed by a formal dinner at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. Tickets for this event are available, priced £70+VAT, and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
