You won’t find a sterner test for your technical talents than the ocean. Join our world renowned Global Technology Leaders team as a Lead Materials Specialist and you’ll use your expertise to make a material difference to the safety of ships around the world.

Using your extensive knowledge of materials and welding, you’ll ask fundamental questions like: How is the material treated, managed and used? Is it simple to use? Is there a better material? You’ll harness cutting-edge technology (like ultrasonic peening) to examine new methods of increasing the fatigue life of our ships. You’ll also present your own challenges by interrogating the Rules for ship classification and making new recommendations. So we’ll expect you to have a good materials engineering degree, preferably with a Masters, plus IOM3 or Welding Institute membership.

Lloyd’s Register operates as an integrated global team, in which everyone works together to do something that matters, so great communication skills are just as important as your technical expertise. And as a voice of Lloyd’s Register, you’ll promote the exciting thought leadership going on in your directorate by presenting technical papers at industry forums and liaising with our clients.
