Professor A J Monhemius
Mineral Processing & Extractive Metallurgy Division Board Chairman

Professor John Monhemius, Dean of the Royal School of Mines, holds the Roy Wright Chair in Mineral and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College.

He has more than 35 years experience of academic research in hydrometallurgy and environmental control in mining and metallurgical processes, particularly in the management of toxic wastes and effluents.

He has acted as a consultant to many large mining and chemical companies.

In 1994, he received the Gold Medal of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy for research into the extraction of gold and in 1995, the MIRO John Phillips Medal for innovation and application of technology for the development of stable arsenical compounds for disposal of arsenic.

Professor Monhemius is a past-president of the Southern Counties Branch of the former IMMM; and he chairs the Editorial Board of Section C of the Transactions of the Institute.
