Peter has over 35 years experience in the mining and minerals industry. He has spent most of his working life at the sharp end of the industry in production, technical and most recently general management positions. Since 2000 he has worked independently as a freelance primarily in public relations and lobbying for the industry in the UK, Europe and worldwide.

He studied Metallurgy at Cambridge where he went on a steel scholarship before working 13 years with Anglo-American on the Zambian Copperbelt, in various technical and operational positions. Following his return to the UK he spent 20 years with Laporte at their Glebe Mines fluorspar and barytes operation in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire and was Managing Director/General Manager for the last 5 years.

Peter is currently Secretary of the British Aggregates Association (BAA) a position he has held since May 2000 at the inaugural AGM. The BAA was formed to specifically represent the interests of the smaller, privately owned SME sector and has over 70 members representing some 10% of UK aggregate output. He is been an active member of the CBI Minerals Committee since 1997.

Peter is Director and founder of The Barytes Association based out of Brussels which he helped to form in 2000. The Association has a worldwide membership representing one-third of world output and over 50% of the marketed production. Meetings are held twice a year and annually at a producer site with Morocco, Germany, Scotland, Netherlands and India already visited and Nevada, USA in May 2005.

He has been associated with MIRO (Mineral Industry Research Organisation) since 1985 and a board member since 1997, and is currently Vice-President; and also a Director of the Mining Association of the UK (MAUK) since 1998.

Peter has authored the Mining Journal Annual world review of fluorspar since 1999; as well as producing the Financial Times/Mining Journal commodity review for fluorspar published May 2000, and a revision for Roskill of their fluorspar review.

Peter lives with his wife Sue in the Peak District and has two children in the early 20s. He enjoys music, travelling, swimming, walking, and gardening. He has been a member of Bakewell Rotary Club since 1985, and is again poised to take his golf more seriously.
