Young Surface Engineer's Workshop and Young Researchers' Lecture Competition

Wednesday 14 – Thursday 15 May 2008

Organisers:

Mr K Harrison – Sulzer Metco (UK) Ltd
Dr D Rickerby – Rolls-Royce Derby
Mr G Pattinson - Rolls-Royce Derby

The Surface Engineering Division Board warmly invites you to participate in the Young Surface Engineer’s Workshop and Lecture Competition at Materials Congress 2008 on the theme:

"How to design with surface coatings to give a robust engineering solution"

This will be demonstrated by participants being active and making use of a simulation tool to understand the interaction between the selection, implementation cost and delivery performance of a surface engineered product. The workshop will be facilitated by engineers with experience in the introduction of new product technology into industrial markets. Two technology areas will form the themes for the day, aerospace and biomedical, but the output from the workshop will be applicable to a wide range of industrial sectors.

The workshop is open to all engineers and scientists engaged or interested in the application, research and implementation of surface coatings in industrial markets

Keynote speakers:

Turbine blade design evolution Dr Dave Hutchinson, Rolls-Royce plc
Surface Engineering: the best opening we have for the improvement of medical devices? Dr Ken Brummitt – Principal Research Engineer, De Puy International Ltd
