Filler Reinforcement of Rubber

Tuesday 14th September 2004
Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining

The Institute's Rubber in Engineering Committee is organising a one-day conference on the subject of filler reinforcement of rubber, to be held at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining in London on Tuesday 14th September 2004.

Particulate fillers can increase the strength of non-strain crystallisable synthetic materials by a factor of about 10; this has been crucial in making them industrially useful elastomers. The use of such fillers in adjusting other mechanical and electrical properties is also of great importance. Fillers also play a key role in the processing characteristics of unvulcanised rubber.

The themes of the conference will be:
  • Fundamental understanding/current theories
  • Modelling
  • Practical issues and current technology
  • Case histories
  • New and emerging technology
  • Reinforcement of rubber by filler and related thermo-mechanical and electrical effects
  • Filler characterisation
  • Surface modification and coupling agents
